We ♥ students!
Ready to step out of the classroom and start making a difference?
Consider a student placement at VON.
Build relationships, not just a resumé.
There’s nothing like caring for someone one-on-one in their own home. The lasting relationships you build with clients and their families are a big part of what VON offers — and a big part of what helps clients to heal and stay healthy.
What kind of placements do you offer?
In partnership with affiliated schools, we offer clinical placements for students joining regulated and unregulated health professions.
Our current focus is on students in:
-
baccalaureate nursing programs,
-
practical nursing programs, and
-
CCA or PSW programs.
We also will work with students who are completing project-based learning as part of their education program. Possibilities include projects related to administration, finance, program evaluation, research, policy or education.
Why should I consider VON?
Get a head start on your career.
After you graduate, consider one of the many different job opportunities at VON. Between home care, home support and community support services, we offer more than 50 different programs and services across Ontario and Nova Scotia.
Make a difference in your community.
VON is a registered charity that provides care based on need, not ability to pay. A placement with VON means you’re helping vulnerable clients and their families to live their best lives in the safety and comfort of their own homes and communities.
Gain hands-on, real-world experience.
At VON, no two days are ever the same. You’ll work alongside our knowledgeable and professional staff, caring for clients of all ages with a range of conditions, giving you the chance to develop strong clinical reasoning skills.
What kind of work would I be doing?
Due to the number of programs we offer, you have many options for where you could be placed. For example, consider a placement:
In one of our Community Nursing Clinics that offer wound care, medication administration, dressing changes, pain and symptom management, IV therapy and more
With one of our Visiting Nursing programs, where nurses work to their full scope, providing care in clients’ home or in schools
In one of our Nurse Practitioner Clinics that offer primary care in the local community
With our Palliative Care programs, working with clients and their families to provide care, assessment and symptom management. We also provide end-of-life care and support.
With one of our many Adult Day Programs, which focus on providing a safe, social and recreational experience for seniors and individuals with a disability including dementia
With our SMART (Seniors Maintaining Active Roles Together) program and Fall Prevention classes, supporting mobility and keeping older adults active and engaged in their communities
