Employee Recognition and Retention

Giving and receiving thanks at work is essential. When we work in a warm, inviting, and safe workplace where our efforts are consistently valued, we are reinvigorated and energized in our work, and more supportive of one another, creating a healthier and more sustainable environment and culture for both clients and staff.

Recognition plays a crucial role in employee retention as it ensures that employees feel valued and appreciated. At VON, we have a dedicated Organizational Development department focused on fostering a learning culture, developing leadership, creating career pathways, recognizing and rewarding excellence, and implementing retention initiatives.

How We Recognize Our Employees:

  • Our Orientation Program is designed to integrate new hires effectively through a combination of guided training, including job shadowing, mentorship, facilitated learning, and E-learning.
  • Our VON STAR Recognition program allows staff to nominate their coworkers as VON STAR Award champions for weekly reward draws.
  • Our Long Service Awards recognize employees who celebrate milestone anniversaries every five years.
  • Our Personalized Development Plans (PDPs) support employee growth through regular career conversations and feedback loops.
  • Our Aspiring Leaders Program identifies individuals with strong leadership potential, providing them with specialized training and development opportunities.
