We are excited to introduce Monique Porlier as the new Chair of the VON Board of Directors. With her extensive leadership experience and passion for community-centred health care, Monique is committed to guiding VON as it continues to expand its reach and impact.

Monique reflects, “I feel very privileged to be part of today’s VON. The organization and its people have accomplished so much in recent years, and together, we are courageously moving to a future where VON will expand its reach and impact in the communities it serves.”

Her vision for VON is rooted in enhancing the organization’s strong commitment to quality, people-centred care. She sees VON as a leader in shaping the future of health care. “VON is well recognized for its focus on quality care, safety, and innovation. We’re at the table with funders and other healthcare providers and partners, driving change to improve access to the right care at the right time,” Monique explains.

A key area of growth Monique is particularly excited about is the continued innovation within VON. “Innovation is everywhere at VON. We’re not stuck in the past—we’re bold, creating new solutions, and partnering with others to expand our services and make them more accessible” she says. “Our new strategic plan reflects this focus, creating opportunities to deliver care in new ways and in new places, in partnership with donors, funders, and other social services and healthcare providers.”

Monique’s leadership experience spans several sectors, including health care, hospice, palliative care, and large not-for-profit organizations. She believes this diverse background will further strengthen VON’s governance. “I’m excited to bring my experiences to VON, supporting the team as they continue to provide high-quality, community-centred care,” she says.

As International Women’s Day approaches, Monique also reflects on the importance of supporting women in leadership. “The United Nation’s theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.’ This resonates deeply with me,” she shares. “I encourage everyone to ensure the women in their lives are supported and realize their best selves.”

Monique is eager to guide VON as it continues its important work in shaping the future of home and community care, expanding its reach, and impacting the lives of Canadians.
