VON Canada Award winners personify organizational values
Each year, VON Canada presents awards to employees and volunteers who have made significant contributions to the organization and to their communities. These awards are truly special, as recipients have been nominated by their colleagues in recognition of their commitment to VON’s values—respect, compassion and excellence.
The award recipients personify these values and make important contributions to VON’s work, helping to make a positive impact in the lives of our clients and their families. Board Chair Monique Porlier and President and CEO Jo-Anne Poirier presented the awards at VON’s Annual General Meeting on September 29, 2025.
Bonnie Pilkey, Award of Distinction
A retired reverend, Bonnie has had a transformative impact on bereavement care as a volunteer at VON Oxford and Sakura House, with initiatives such as a therapeutic labyrinth and memorial services designed for children. Her lived experience with profound loss and grief, along with her empathy and appreciation for the people she supports, make her a caring, dedicated supporter for others navigating their grief.
In accepting the award, Bonnie said, “To be able to walk with people who have also struggled and who have moved through the challenges of their own grief journeys has been life-changing for me and hopefully for them, and I continue to enjoy and love the work that I do.” Bonnie added that she looks forward to making a difference in new, creative ways.
