VON Asked to Collaborate on Care Options for Homicide Grief

VON Durham Hospice Services provides psycho-social support to clients navigating palliative care and bereavement, with nurse palliative navigators on staff, volunteer support services and care counselling for clients, caregivers and families.

VON Durham Hospice Services was recently approached by Durham Victim Services (DVS) to take part in the newly formed Durham Region Homicide Bereavement Support Coordinating Committee, alongside other community partners, to support victims of homicide loss.

Losing someone to homicide is a unique type of grief, and VON Durham’s work in bereavement will complement the committee’s goal of reducing gaps in the support options available to those grieving. The committee meets quarterly and VON Durham is represented by Jessica McGeough, Manager, Home and Community Care, and Eva Papachristu, Program Coordinator, Hospice Palliative Care.

“VON Durham’s bereavement program orientation and training will help to provide the framework for the committee as we aim to better collaborate as a community to support victims of homicide loss in the region,” said Eva.
