A full circle moment: from receiving care to giving back
For years, Jim and his wife faced the challenges of her cancer diagnosis. Through this difficult time, one constant source of support was VON's in-home nursing services. When his wife transitioned from in-clinic care to care at home, the local VON team became an essential part of their healing journey.
Jim spoke to the high-quality care his wife received from VON: “We were getting remarkable care. They show up, they’re nice, they’re friendly, and they do their job.” One of the most difficult challenges was managing his wife’s feeding tube, which caused severe irritation. “The VON nurses came every day, dressed the wound, and helped alleviate the discomfort with professionalism and care,” Jim shared.
What set VON apart for Jim was the level of personal care and attention his wife received. "In hospitals, there are so many patients at a time needing care, but with VON, they have that one-on-one time and focus on what’s needed," he explained.
Inspired by the support his wife received, Jim decided to give back to VON. "My hope is that by supporting the organization, someone else can experience this excellent in-home care," he said.
In addition to providing medical care, VON's flexibility allowed Jim to continue working while ensuring his wife received care. “The care supported me to support her,” he noted.
