Frequently Asked Questions: The Home Support Edition
With an aging population, more Nova Scotians need home support than ever before. This year, VON Annapolis Valley will provide these services to more than 900 people throughout Kings and Annapolis counties.
Below, you can get answers to questions we frequently receive about our home support services. If you need more assistance, you can contact a manager at 902-678-3415—we are happy to help you!
What is included in home support services?
Home support includes light housekeeping, meal preparation, personal care, and respite for caregivers.
How do I get access to home support?
If you or your loved one would like to have home support, you can contact Continuing Care at 1-800-225-7225 for an initial assessment. Once a client’s needs have been determined, VON will provide the service as authorized by Continuing Care.
How do I cancel my visit?
We know that sometimes you may need to cancel your home support visit. When this happens, you must give VON as much notice as possible and at least 24 hours’ notice. This means that we can reschedule that time for someone else who needs care.
To cancel your visit, please call 1-866-540-2363 to speak with a Client Service Associate.
What times are services provided?
The majority of VON services are scheduled between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days a week. The order in which we make visits depends on a variety of factors, including the client’s needs.
Does my pet need to be secured?
We realize that pets are like family. However, to ensure the safety of both our staff and clients, we require pets to be secured for the duration of the visit.
What other services does VON Annapolis Valley offer?
In addition to home support and nursing care, VON Annapolis Valley offers Community Support Services. Depending on the client’s and caregiver’s needs, these programs are often a great alternative for home support clients. Programs include: Adult Day, Meals on Wheels, Frozen Favourites and Companionship Transportation.
