Antigonish Community Supports VON

In November, four St. Francis Xavier University students contacted the VON Antigonish office eager to support VON by hosting a fundraiser. Their timeline was tight, as it was already mid-November and they wanted to plan a hybrid online/in-person fundraiser, all before starting exams in December.

They connected with Eleanor Price, Manager, Community Support Services, and although their initiative was part of their curriculum, their passion for and knowledge of VON was impressive. “They had clearly done their research. They knew about our community programs and were keen to help. They were full of energy and enthusiasm, and during our conversations referred to VON as a “dope” and “sick” organization! It was a heartwarming to hear that from four young men,” said Eleanor.

The students held their small, socially distanced fundraiser at a local brewery, which offered their facilities at no charge. In one week, the students sold the maximum number of tickets and raised an additional $1,100 in online donations using our third-party fundraising platform. In total, the students raised $2,600 for VON Antigonish Community Support Services. According to one of the students, “We were really happy to be volunteering for an organization like VON that does such great work in the community.”
