Leaving a legacy
A charitable bequest is a planned donation designated through a written clause in your Will. A bequest can be for a specific dollar amount, a particular asset, a life insurance policy or a fixed percentage of your estate. Leaving a gift in your Will is an act of kindness that will inspire those around you and impact future generations. Your compassion will generate positive change in your community for years to come.
To make a gift to VON from your estate, you may need to draft a new Will or add a codicil to your existing Will. Before making any changes to your Will, we encourage you to seek advice from a professional advisor.
A gift in your Will may:
- be any amount, from small to large
- be designated to a specific program (restricted) or to the area of most need (unrestricted)
- include cash, securities or a percentage of your estate
VON is a trusted charity—our operating expenses rely on a variety of funding sources, including government, granting agencies and corporate and individual donors. We help people live in their homes and communities, where they want to be. Our highly trained staff and volunteers provide clinical and non-clinical supports to frail older adults and people of all ages with complex and/or chronic health issues. Charitable contributions support areas including client services and programs, capital enhancements to our nursing clinics, specialized education for staff, necessary equipment and important technology upgrades. With your support, we will continue to expand our innovative programs to meet evolving client needs, reach more people and contribute to a stronger, more efficient healthcare system.
With a planned gift, you may be able to provide a greater level of support to VON than is possible during your lifetime, and keep your assets available while you need them. In addition, your estate will receive a tax credit. Gifts in Wills are also flexible— you can change them at any time.

To offer the greatest support, you may wish to consider directing your gift to the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada as an unrestricted gift. This will allow us to invest in the areas of greatest need. You may also support a specific program in your local community. Because our programs change to suit client needs, please contact us to ensure we continue to offer the program you have chosen.
We are grateful for our generous donors, and we aim to recognize them in a variety of ways, such as on donor plaques and our annual donor recognition wall. We are happy to personalize recognition with each donor.
