Bonnie was born and raised in Cochrane, Ontario, as one of six children. She has lived in Ottawa several times throughout her life and currently resides in Timmins, Ontario.
From a young age, Bonnie demonstrated a deep commitment to caring for others, beginning her journey as a caregiver at just ten years old. Over the years, she has gained extensive firsthand experience supporting loved ones facing a range of health challenges, including kidney cancer, throat cancer, multiple myeloma, amyloidosis, Parkinson’s disease, depression, and bipolar disorder. Through these experiences, she became highly skilled at navigating the complexities of the healthcare system and advocating for the needs of those in her care.
Professionally, Bonnie is a former Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and Social Service Worker. The majority of her career has been dedicated to serving and supporting Indigenous communities across Ontario.
Prior to her retirement in December 2023, she served as the Ontario Coordinator of the Discharge Program for an Indigenous legal agency. In this role, she collaborated with correctional facilities and courts across the province to help clients safely reintegrate into their home communities following incarceration or court release.
Bonnie is deeply passionate about contributing her experience and insight as a member of the National Advisors Council for the VON.
