Cindy joined VON as chief nursing officer in December 2023. She was previously senior director of interprofessional practice and learning with Nova Scotia Health, where she initiated and managed organizational change to foster interprofessional education and practice. She began her nursing career working in large trauma and critical care centres.
She has received three community service awards: one for work during the Swissair Disaster, another for her volunteer work in making Nova Scotia beaches more accessible, and one most recently for her leadership role during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also received teaching excellence awards from undergraduate nursing learners at the University of Calgary. She was nominated by her colleagues for a nursing leadership award from the Canadian College of Health Leaders.
Cindy holds a PhD from the University of Alberta, where her research focuses on entry-level nurse experiences with interprofessional collaboration in interprofessional practice teams. She comes from four generations of nurses.
