Fran Gregor, MN, PhD, brings expertise in nursing and nursing education to the VON Board of Directors.

Fran has nearly 35 years of professional and volunteer leadership experience. Before retiring from the School of Nursing at Dalhousie University in 2005, she taught undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, researched the educative practice of nurses and administered the graduate nursing program. 

Fran served for nearly two decades on the board of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and on the board of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. She was also a board member with the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Institute at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. 

Fran is a founding member of the Halifax Women’s History Society. In 2017 she led a successful fundraising campaign to establish a memorial statue to Halifax women who supplied practical assistance to troops passing through the city during World War II.

Fran holds a Bachelor and Master’s of Nursing and a PhD in the sociology of education from Dalhousie University. She has received many awards throughout her career, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada’s Distinguished Service Award and the Canadian Progress Club’s Women of Excellence Award.
