A Letter to our Volunteers

April 14 – 20, 2024 is National Volunteer Week

Each spring, we look forward to celebrating our volunteers during National Volunteer Week. At VON, volunteers are significant contributors to our team at all levels of the organization.

The work you do helps ensure VON clients live safely in their homes and communities, receiving the care and support they and their families need.

National Volunteer Week—organized each year by Volunteer Canada—is a special time to honour dedicated individuals like you who give of their time, talents and energies to help others in need. This year’s theme is “Every Moment Matters.” It highlights the importance of every volunteer and each contribution they make at a moment when we need support more than ever.

The theme certainly rings true here at VON where the many acts of kindness and support provided by VON volunteers each day add up to something big—you make lives better. You share your time, skills, empathy and creativity to support wellbeing and create stronger, more inclusive communities.

We know that you don’t do it for the recognition, but we are very pleased to recognize you this week. Your contribution matters. Every moment matters. Volunteering matters.

In whatever way you support our mission—driving clients to essential medical appointments, phoning or visiting isolated individuals, serving on committees or fundraising to grow programs and services—you are a valued and appreciated member of our team.

Thank you for all you do to support our clients, our staff and our mission. And thank you for being an ambassador, helping us to spread the message that home and community care is a necessary and important component of the healthcare sector.

Your support helps people stay in their own homes and communities—where they want to be. For that, we sincerely thank you.

With gratitude,
