Group Home Support for the Intellectually Challenged
Today, many intellectually challenged people, such as those with Down's syndrome, live in specialized group homes and work in the community. VON nurses support house parents when they cannot find the reason for a change in a client (people with intellectual challenges can't always report symptoms). The nurses also do preventative health work such as teaching nutrition or doing breast exams with this clientele.
