Volunteer Opportunities

Vision of Volunteers        Volunteer Form

VON Greater Halifax has over 300 dedicated volunteers who help with the delivery of our Community Support Programs. Volunteers make a difference in the lives of individuals every day. For information on volunteer opportunities with VON Greater Halifax, please contact Connie Vanberkel  at 455-6653.

Transportation
Volunteers provide door-to-door drives to seniors and adults with disabilities to medical appointments, social outings or errands. Volunteers use their own vehicles and are reimbursed for their mileage.

Breakaway Adult Day
Volunteers assist the Breakaway Coordinator and Activity Assistant with the program. Group participants enjoy social, physical and recreational activities such as card games, social outings and more.

Volunteer Visiting

Volunteers provide one-on-one support and friendship to clients in their own homes. Volunteers are matched after the needs and interests of the client are assessed.

Palliative and Supportive Care

Upon completing the Palliative Care training course, volunteers provide support and care to both clients and their families so they may live comfortably at home.

Frozen Favourites

Volunteers in the Frozen Favourites Program deliver frozen meals throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Keep in Touch (KIT)

Volunteers provide reassurance and interaction on a regular basis through a weekly phone call with clients.

Seniors Information Line

Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, volunteers on the Seniors Information Line provide information to individuals about the programs and services available to clients in the HRM.

David's Place

David's Place provides health outreach services and support to the homeless, low-income and under-housed members of our community. Volunteers assist with cooking lunch, serving lunch, etc.

As part of our commitment to client safety, all VON volunteers must complete an application and undergo a screening process.
